The Four "dous," Solar Panels, and Parenting Advice

Happy Saturday, friend!

We’re back again with another edition of Productivity + Habits + Fun

😃 Fun Fact of the Week

Only four words in the English language end in “dous.”

Think you can string all four of those words into one sentence?

🌞 How Solar Panels Work

  • Energy from the sun is captured and then converted to electricity and heat

  • Photovoltaic (PV) panels have decreased in price by about 90% since 2010

Any surprises here? I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect!

😌 Decision-making Idea

The Self-Serving Bias: Our failures are due to circumstances, but our success is due to our own talents, abilities, and efforts.

Example: You earn accolades at work because of all the hard work you put into your quarterly presentation. But if your bosses didn’t like it, it must have been because you didn’t get enough sleep.

This is similar to the Fundamental Attribution Error we discussed last week. We associate positive outcomes with ourselves, and we link negative outcomes with things outside of our control.

We do this to help pad our egos.

If we choose to accept full responsibility for the good and bad things in life, we empower ourselves to make sure the good things keep happening. When the bad things happen, we empower ourselves to learn from them and correct them.

🧠 Quote of the Week

To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.

What I think:

This sounds like a parenting quote!

I’m not a parent, but I’ve spent enough time around adults and children to see that kids must be understood first and foremost if you’re going to influence them.

Adults can be reasoned with, but I think we all really want to feel seen, heard, and understood.

What about you? I’d love to hear your experiences with this.

Thank you so much for spending some of you precious time with me. 🙂

I’m always looking to improve, so hit “reply” and let me know what you think!

Have an awesome week.

Sincerely,

Steven Sanders

PS - I hope to see you on Twitter and Instagram!
